Your first reaction might be “wow that’s a lot of stuff, .NET sucks!” Most platforms have similar glossaries or barriers to entry. There’s TLAs (three letter acronyms) in every language and computer ecosystems. Don’t get overwhelmed, start with Need To Know and move slowly forward.

For small examples, this looks like a lot of boilerplate and obfuscation just to avoid a switch or two, but maybe it helps keep some larger state machines sane.
